Will adding an email address to my address book keep it out of my spam folder?

Ryan C asked: Mail from a particular recipient that I trust is being filtered into my spam folder. Will adding them to my address book keep them from being marked as spam, or do I have to manually setup a filter?
For further clarification, the address is not listed under my blocked addresses.
