How do I stop “you’ve won the lottery” or other spam from coming into my email?

Tom G asked:

I am getting about 10 emails day from Nigera and other areas telling me that I won the lottery, I need to contact the barrester in the UK , and many other subjects like that. Short of changing my email how do I stop this problem ….these emails don’t seem to be filtered into the spam area on yahoo….Thanks Tom Gietzen …..bravotom@yahoo.com

If they are not being filtered, you should add them into your spam filter. Once you stop getting mail from one address, delete it, and then add others. I believe that you can only have 500 blocked e-mail addresses…

Select the messages and click the button that marks the messages as spam. The more you do this, the better the spam filter in Yahoo Mail should work.

Whatever you do —> DO NOT REPLY TO THEM

Also, be more careful where you put your e-mail address. The way you wrote it above leaves it vulnerable to spambots that crawl the net looking for e-mail addresses. If you absolutely positively unavoidably must put your e-mail address on a web page use this format:

    username [at] yahoo [dot] com

or get Yahoo Mail Plus at 19.95USD a year and get disposable mail addresses (and advert free mail and other good stuff).

Ok I know how it feels because it has happened to me many times before.Ok first things first. You need a spam filter on your computer(if you don’t already have one). When you have your spam filter you can put spam mail into it(because you really didn’t win the lottery it’s a stranger hacking your computer). You can check of email addresses and other contact things and put them into a spam folder. The spam folder holds the names of email addresses you have deleted or blocked from your computer. When you do that no spam mail can get to your computer.I know this because it has happened to me one to many times before.Hope this can help you!
